PAST STARS

Listed below, in alphabetical order, are some of those horses that have won for us or have given us particular pleasure in the past both Under Rules and in Point-to-Points. Click on the name to see more details. For information about the horses that we currently have in training, please look at the News page.

ANBROOKA
Chesnut Mare (1995) by Meadowbrook out of Angerton Annie (Waterfall)
Race Record :
Ran 11: Won (1) : Second (3) : Third (1) : Fourth (0)

Anbrooka was a surprise birthday present for me from Harriet, complete with new racing colours (light blue, dark blue stars on sleeves). She never finished out of the first three in 5 runs in Point-to-Points, but never took to the bigger fences. She unfortunately contracted pneumonia complicated with pleurosy after a run at the Jedforest PTP and had to be put down.

DEDAY
Grey Gelding (1987) by Liberated out of Pandoras Box (Unregistered)
Race Record
Ran 19: Won (2) : Second (2) : Third (0) : Fourth (0)

Deday started out as an eventer and team chaser before we thought we would give him a go racing. His second run produced a first win for both horse and jockey (Harriet). He either ran brilliantly or badly, nothing in between. It was thanks to his performances in Point-to-Points and Hunter Chases that we got our Permit.

HOOKY'S TREAT
Bay Mare (1991) by Dutch Treat out of Hookah Girl (Hubble Bubble)
Race Record
Ran 23: Won (1) : Second (5) : Third (5) : Fourth (3)

Treat was given to us in exchange for one of our old horses by Harriet's mother. She came with the reputation of being a bit wild, but she turned into a wonderfully consistent Point-To-Pointer whom everyone seems to like to ride. She still, however has her 'dark' side and enjoys nothing better than getting one over on the person on top.
As a Point-To-Pointer she was very reliable and consistent but extremely one-paced and kept managing to find one too good for her. In 2000 she finally managed to get the win that she deserved. In the same season she also managed to win the Buccleuch Cross Country Race and the Yeavering Team Chase (both times ridden by Harriet).
She was retired in 2001 and has bred three nice foals by Environment Friend, Endoli and River Falls.

PHAR ECHO
Bay Gelding (1991) by Phardante(FR) out of Borecca (Boreen(FR))

Race Record
Ran 48: Won (6) : Second (6) : Third (6) : Fourth (6)

We bought him from Len Lungo's yard where he won 4 hurdle races but never fulfilled his potential over fences. He ran so well in Point-to-Points that we gave him a run in a 4m handicap chase at Hexham which the old boy gamely won and proved to be the first leg of our first ever double. He in the Borders National at Kelso, where he ran well and stayed on to claim 5th. He won another chase in handicap company at Hexham over 3m 1f.
Sadly, he had to be put down after finishing 5th at Sedgefield due to an injury sustained during the race. He was a great character and we all loved him very much. He is greatly missed.

SPRUCE
Chesnut Mare (1993) by Buckley out of Mossberry Fair (Mossberry)

Race Record
Ran 15: Won (1) : Second (2) : Third (2) : Fourth (2)

Before we even got her to the racecourse, she was kicked in the field and had a stress fracture in a foreleg. Her first Point-To-Point proved to be something of a revelation, when in a Ladies Open, she was handily positioned and traveling OK when she unfortunately fell four from home. She easily won her maiden under Mark Bradburne in appalling conditions.
As we were overstocked for the next season, we sent her to Harriet's mother in Devon. She never finished out of the first four in her five runs. She is now retired.

TOFINO SWELL
Bay Mare (1992) by Primitive Rising out of Celtic Sands (Celtic Cone)

Race Record
Ran 19: Won (0) : Second (0) : Third (1) : Fourth (1)

Tofino Swell was named after a lodge that we stayed in on the coast of Vancouver Island, Canada. In the stable she is known as Philly and is quite a complicated mare. She was our first truly competitive horse and gave us our first place Under Rules. She had breathing problems which we tried to remedy by a tubing operation which was a disaster. She was never the same again.
We retired her from racing and she now does eventing, cross country and modern pentathlon, being ridden by our niece Heather Fell who is World Junior Pentathlon Champion.

WHISTLE BINKIE
Chesnut Mare (1986) by Slim Jim out of Madam Law (Manicou)
Race Record
Ran 17: Won (1) : Second (1) : Third (2) : Fourth (2)

Whistle was our first Point-To-Pointer who won one race in her first season. She was a bit of a character, an intelligent, lively chesnut mare, quite affectionate, but loved nothing better than causing mischief. Her favourite trick was to let herself out of her stable by undoing the top bolt and then going around and letting every other horse out of their stable!
